You have decided to sell your house! After the excitement about a change in your life then comes all the questions.
I have a few suggestions that can get you started on getting your home ready to put on the market.
1. De-Clutter - The first thing you want to do is go through your home and de-clutter it. If you can I recommend renting a storage unit and start moving out the stuff you do not use on a daily basis. You want the home to be as open and inviting as possible. And moving stuff into a storage unit will also help when moving because you will have already packed a lot of stuff.
2. Windows - Have you ever gone into someone's home and you saw all the dust and water spots on their windows. A lot of times in our own homes it does not stand out as much to us. Washing the inside and outside of the windows in the home is important. You would be surprised how much dust and grime builds up on windows in a short amount of time. When a buyer walks into a home you want them to see all the views they would have. You want the view to be clean and clear, it will also make the home feel fresh and clean.
3. Personal Stuff - When a buyer looks at your home you want them to imagine it as their home. So make sure to take down all your personal pictures, family pictures and family/personal mementos. You want the home to be a canvas for the buyer to look at and imagine what they would do with the home. If you have personal pictures and such up then they think of it as your home and not potentially theirs.
4. Smell - All homes have a certain smell, does your home have a good one or a bad one. This is called being nose blind, a lot of us get used to the smell of our home and really can't tell what it smells like. So find that friend/co-worker in your life that you know will be totally honest with you about how your home smells and have them come over. Have that honest friend tell you if your home has a good smell or not. If it needs some improvement, things to consider is shampooing carpet, cleaning floors and also putting a candle or wax warmer out to make the home smell good.
