Finally! The blog everyone’s been waiting for! Probably 90% of my blogs include a sentence about how important it is to have a Realtor that you like and trust; but how do you find one??
The first thing to do is to ask family and friends. Referrals are absolutely the best way to find an agent. I’m going to add a disclaimer here though; I’m not saying to find a family member or friend who is a Realtor! I mean ask who has bought or sold a home with a Realtor who they absolutely love and had a great experience with. I have seen many Realtors work with family or close friends, and more often than not it adds much more stress and strains the relationship. Don’t mix business and pleasure!
Google the Realtors that you are interested in interviewing. Look at their reviews on Zillow and Google. Look at their past sales and social media presence!
Choose 3 or 4 Realtors that you like, and interview them. Whether you are buying or selling, its important to have a Realtor who communicates in the same way that you do. If you are someone who prefers to communicate via text, but your agent doesn’t text and only calls, that is going to add a lot of stress and decrease communication for both parties. Grill the prospective agents on their style of communication, and how often they will talk with you. If you are selling your home, ask about their style of advertising, photos, etc.
If you’re lucky, by the end of the interviews you will know who you click most with and hire that person. If it doesn’t jump out at you right away, sleep on it!
